Explore the expressive and material qualities of Japanese washi paper through tactile, visual, and structural experimentation. Washi is renowned for its strength, delicacy, and subtle translucency. It embodies the Japanese sensibility of wabi-sabi—the beauty of imperfection, simplicity, and natural process. Through guided creative exercises, participants will experience how this remarkable paper responds to cutting, layering, folding, and painting, discovering its potential as a medium for both material exploration and poetic expression. The first session will involve collaging, the second will involve folding, and the third will be painting with watercolour and ink on washi paper.
No experience required. All materials are included so just bring yourself and an excitement to learn the many possibilities of working with this beautiful material paper!
