Jane Roy

Jane Roy is known for her contribution in leading the poverty fight at London Food Bank and for her humanitarian efforts in South Sudan. One of Roy’s exhibitions held at the Westland Gallery sent all proceeds to the efforts in South Sudan. Roy describes her creative process as “playing in the sandbox” alongside her mentor, Jamie Jardine, a London artist with whom she sometimes shares the canvas. Jardine said their relationship has evolved from teacher-student to peers and friends, adding that Roy’s current paintings are unmistakably her own, marked by a limited palette and energetic brushstrokes. Jane’s work is about the process of learning, discovering the artist within, and sharing the beauty of the world with others. Roy said her art has become a way to process grief and personal loss, transforming difficult memories into meaningful expression. “I love the outdoors – the colours, the light, the big skies. I generally start with sketches done plein air (outside), moving to bigger canvasses inside the studio. Though I often still struggle with each painting, I still love the journey!” - Jane
