Artist Biography
Jane Atkinson is a mixed media artist creating captivating portraits using collage and acrylic paint. She brings vibrancy and life to her artwork featuring people, birds, and animals. Her art has a delightful playfulness that resonates with viewers.
Atkinson graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Western University. During that time her focus was large, acrylic portraits. She later attended George Brown College studying Commercial Art and graduated with an Honour’s Certificate. She also studied Life Painting at Ontario College of Art.
Atkinson established a fulfilling 25 year career as a graphic designer. She continued to paint and draw, completing a few new pieces every year. In 2017, she retired from the design industry, giving her time to experiment freely with her vivid mixed-media creations.
As a member of numerous art organizations, Atkinson stays connected with other artists. She has received several awards including the Judge’s Choice award at the Port Stanley Art Guild Show, Juror’s Choice award at the St. Thomas Art Guild Show, and several Honourable Mentions, highlighting her talent and commitment to art.
Atkinson’s paintings have been exhibited in many group shows across Canada. Solo shows held in Port Stanley were very well received. Her art has been featured in a variety of esteemed publications and can be found in private collections in Canada, United States, and England.
