David Thai
David Thai is an award-winning glass artist. He obtained his business degree at Ryerson University and went on to pursue his glass and design study at Sheridan College. David has studied with renowned American glass artists Michael Schunke and Dick Marques.
After graduation, he was awarded the prestigious residency at Harbourfront Centre in Toronto. David is currently creating his glassworks in his studio in Oakville, Ontario.
His glass blowing equipment is used for the international Blown Away Competition – a group of artisans from across North America competing for a residency at the Corning Museum of Glass. Strongly influenced by renowned Murano glass artist Lino Tagliapietra, design, shape and colour became part of David’s artistic journey, adding one more signature design element to his work – Japanese silver leaf. His vessels and glass sculptures resonate with his unique signature style – colour, light and a timeless contemporary style.
His work is easily recognizable and exhibited in galleries across Canada and the United States. Livio Seguso said “glass is a material that seems to be born out of the sea to live in the air shaped by fire; it fascinates and ignites the imagination.”
