Landscape, seascape, big sky, the unpredictable wildness of weather intrigues me. My work is gestural, loose and semi- abstract. I paint with acrylics, mediums and sometimes ink and oil pastel. The surface is textural and rough providing visual interest and layers.
I lived for many years on the west coast and the magnificence of the landscape and ever- changing sky is the reason why I paint the way I do. Moving back to Ontario and now living in a small rural community not far from Lake Huron, I continuously look skyward as the seasons change. My work has been described as atmospheric and painterly.
I prefer quiet tones and gentle abstraction with texture and layers. I often scrape, scratch and pull the layers away to reveal marks and color just below the surface. I am inspired by moody weather and the ruggedness of the natural world.
