Nina Cherney

Biography

Nina Cherney , a graduate of Concordia University Fine Arts, is a Montreal-based artist whose abstracted landscape and still life paintings are less invested in resemblance and more in the quality of connection and stillness, of discovery, awe and exhilaration. The pulse of the morning, the humming of the trees, nature's clever flourishing create both energy and peacefulness, capturing a kind of inner weather. The edges formed by meeting layers mark the process, the presence of the artist. The work is playful and vibrant and Nina revels in unexpected and sometimes outrageous combinations. Yet the shapes and colours are intended to create a new yet common language to allow the artist and the viewer to share the journey.
Nina's work can be found in many galleries in Canada and the US as well as in many private collections.
